Your first visit
Walking into a room of strangers can feel daunting, so here’s what to expect.
Arrive by 7:15pm.
We’ll say hello, find you a seat and give you a copy of the agenda.
Watch the meeting.
You’ll see prepared speeches, impromptu Table Topics and short evaluations.
Speak only if you want to.
You may be offered a Table Topic near the end. Saying no thanks is perfectly fine.
Stay for a chat.
Members are happy to answer questions about joining once the meeting closes at 9:30pm.
What happens at a meeting
Each meeting runs for two hours and follows a set agenda, led by a different member each time.
Prepared speeches. Members give speeches from their Pathways projects, usually five to seven minutes long.
Table Topics. Anyone can be invited to answer a surprise question for about a minute. It feels hard at first and gets easier with practice.
Evaluations. Every speaker gets encouraging, practical feedback from another member. Giving evaluations is a skill you build too.
Meeting roles. Members take turns running parts of the meeting, such as timer or Table Topics master, which is where the leadership practice comes in.

Does it cost anything to visit?
Visiting as a guest is free, and you’re welcome to come along a few times before deciding to join.
Do I have to speak?
No. Guests are never required to speak. You may be offered a short Table Topic, and it’s fine to say no thanks.
How much does membership cost?
Membership includes Toastmasters International dues, paid every six months, plus a small club fee. Ask us for the current amounts.
I get very nervous speaking in public. Is this for me?
Yes. Nerves are one of the most common reasons people join. Everyone in the room was a first-timer once, and nobody is put on the spot.
What is Pathways?
Pathways is the Toastmasters education programme. You choose a learning path that fits your goals, then complete projects by giving speeches at club meetings.
What should I wear?
Whatever you’re comfortable in. Some members come straight from work and others dress casually.
Where and when
When: 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month, 7:30pm to 9:30pm. First time? Please arrive by 7:15pm.
